Welcome to Nurcher: A Personal Note from Lindsey Byars
Hi there, and welcome to Nurcher. I’m so glad you’re here.
I wanted to take this first post as a chance to share a little more about me, beyond the credentials and services, and give you a deeper sense of who I am, what I believe in, and why I created Nurcher.
I’ve been a NICU registered nurse for over 8 years, a role that has shaped not only my professional skills but also my heart. Caring for fragile, tiny babies in their very first days of life taught me the value of patience, gentle hands, and clear guidance for new parents during an overwhelming time. I love being at the bedside and watching families grow in confidence as they learn to hold, feed, and care for their little ones. It is more than nursing; it is teaching, empowering, and nurturing. That’s the foundation of Nurcher.
And that name? Nurcher is a little play on words—a blend of "nurse" and "teacher"—because that’s exactly what I aim to be for you: a supportive guide blending clinical knowledge with real-world parenting wisdom. I want to offer education that feels both expert and approachable, because learning how to care for your newborn or feed your baby shouldn’t feel like a test; it should feel like support.
But beyond my professional life, I’ve also walked this journey personally. My first birth didn’t exactly go as planned from an unplanned induction and NICU admission to ALL the breastfeeding struggles.
Luckily, my job as a NICU nurse has connected me with incredible resources, including pediatricians and lactation consultants. I was able to reach out to one of my amazing coworkers who is a lactation consultant. She came to my house in those fragile first days postpartum and became my own personal superhero. She encouraged me, taught me, and gently guided me through the overwhelming moments. She gave me hope that breastfeeding was still possible even with my fussy, bottle-fed baby who wasn’t so sure about the breast.
My experience into parenthood changed everything for me. It inspired me to become a lactation consultant because I know firsthand how powerful, personal, and life-changing this kind of support can be. And I know how devastating it can feel when there isn’t the support you need from the “experts”.
So here it is: Nurcher is my heart project. My blend of nurse, teacher, and mom. My hope is that you’ll feel encouraged, informed, and gently supported here, no matter where you are in your parenting journey.
Thank you for being here. I can’t wait to walk alongside you.
Warmly,
Lindsey Byars, RN, IBCLC
